Who we are
We are a company of Christians from many backgrounds who have come to know God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as our own personal Lord and Saviour.
Since 1952, we have met as a local church on a weekly basis to remember the Lord and study the Bible.
Here are a few things you might be interested in knowing about us:
- According to Matthew 18:20, we are gathered to the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
- We aspire to give Christ His rightful place as Lord, Head, and Chief Shepherd.
- Our building name, ‘Gospel Hall’ indicates the priority we give to the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16)
- We are not part of a denomination, but we enjoy fellowship with a large number of local assemblies throughout the world on the basis of a common understanding of the Word of God
- We believe the Bible is God’s Word and is the basis for all our teaching and preaching, and the foundation for all of our practices (2 Timothy 3:16)
- Spiritual activity such as preaching, teaching, collective prayer and worship, is a shared responsibility
- Church leadership is through a body of elders who are accountable to God, and whose only authority is the Word of God (Acts 20:27)
What we believe and teach
WE BELIEVE that the Bible is the holy, inspired Word of God. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable…” (2 Timothy 3:16).
It is our pattern for all that is taught.
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God. He is co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father. He was conceived miraculously of the Holy Spirit in Mary and born in Bethlehem. His life was holy and sinless (John 1:1; Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:35; Hebrews 7:26).
WE BELIEVE that all people are ruined by sin from birth and must be forgiven by God. (Romans 3:23,24). We are all therefore under Divine condemnation and are incapable of meriting Divine favour. We are helpless and without power to obtain salvation by our own efforts (Romans 5:6; Ephesians 2:8-9).
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ died on the Cross and shed His blood for the forgiveness of sin. Only through faith in Him as personal Lord and Saviour can a person have eternal life – be born again (John 1:29; 3:3-7; 14:6; 1 Peter 3:18.
WE BELIEVE in the bodily, physical resurrection of Christ and in His ascension and return to the “right hand of God” in Heaven (Acts 2:32; Ephesians 1:19-21).
WE BELIEVE that Christ is coming to the air to gather to Himself all those, both living and dead, that have trusted Him as Saviour (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52).
WE BELIEVE in eternal, conscious punishment in Hell for those that reject Christ as the only Saviour (John 3:36; Matthew 25:46).
WE BELIEVE in the baptism of believers by immersion in water, not for the cleansing of sin, but to identify the believer with Christ in His death and His resurrection (1 Peter 3:21; Romans 6:4).
WE BELIEVE that all believers should gather to His Name, acknowledging His Lordship and carrying out the New Testament pattern as to church order, ministry and discipline (Matt.18:20; 1 Corinthians 11:3).
WE BELIEVE in the pattern of coming together every first day of the week to commemorate the Lord’s death as He commanded (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Luke 22:19-20).
WE BELIEVE in the priesthood of all believers. The Holy Spirit alone can lead the hearts of believers to worship God and thus we find no Biblical precedent for the clergy (John 4:24; 1 Peter 2:5-9; 1 Corinthians 14:26).
WE BELIEVE in the authority of Scripture to “Preach the Gospel” (Mark 16:15) free of charge to all people.
You and your family are cordially invited to attend our services.
